Ars Nova presents, as part of the Out Loud series, a FREE reading of: A BED THE SIZE OF PORTUGAL by Mat Smart, directed by Wes Grantom. The cast includes Julian Acosta, Remy Auberjonois, Matt Dellapina, Maria Oliveras and Stacey Yen.

A BED THE SIZE OF PORTUGAL

Olivia is beautiful. Oscar is beautiful. They are newlyweds and completely in love with each other. Everyone is jealous. But Olivia snores like a sailor and Oscar hasn't slept in months. Will a bed the size of Portugal solve their problem?

Mat Smart's most recent play Samuel J. and K. was workshopped this summer at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Black Dahlia in L.A. and The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis. Other plays include The Hopper Collection (Huntington Theatre Company, Magic Theatre and published by Broadway Play Publishing), The 13th of Paris (Pittsburgh's City Theatre, Horizon Theatre in Atlanta, The Public Theatre of Maine and upcoming at Seattle Public Theatre and Warehouse Theatre in South Carolina), Thomas Repair (workshops at South Coast Rep, Geva and Huntington), The Bebop Heard in Okinawa (O'Neill Playwrights' Conference), The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska (Slant Theatre Project at P.S. 122, Cherry Lane and NY Comedy Club - and recently at Chalk Rep in Los Angeles). He has been commissioned by South Coast Rep, Huntington and Commonweal. He is co-founder of NYC's Slant Theatre Project, serves on the board of directors for The New Harmony Project, and is an alumnus of Ars Nova's Play Group & the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. He is currently a Jerome Fellow at The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis. Undergrad: University of Evansville. MFA: UCSD.

Wes has also worked at Roundabout Theatre Company, Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Alley Theatre, TheatreworksUSA, Asolo Rep, George Street Playhouse, The New Harmony Project, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz. In 2008, Wes was awarded The Drama League Directors Project Fall Fellowship. He is a member of Lincoln Center Directors Lab, a co-founder of Slant Theatre Project, and a graduate of the University of Evansville.
