With Beethoven’s 5th and final piano concerto, the ‘Emperor’ Concerto, Leif Ove Andsnes is nearing the conclusion of his extensive project The Beethoven Journey. The project has taken him around the world to give performances, and in 2014 all the Beethoven piano concertos will be recorded for release on the Sony Classical label. Accompanied for this concert by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, Andsnes will also play the virtuosic piano part in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy.
The long-established Norwegian Soloists’ Choir is in a class of its own in Norwegian and international choral circles, and is making its first appearance at the Oslo Opera House. The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir start their segments with music by Arnold Schönberg, with the orchestra’s version of his beautiful late-Romantic composition, Verklärte Nacht, being performed for the first time without a score!
