Playwrights Theatre Announces Summer Camp for Kids and Teens and Playwriting Workshop for Adults

Playwrights Theatre's Creative Arts Academy summer camp for kids and summer theatre program for teens will begin on July 8, 2013, and run through August 30, 2013, in two-week sessions. For more information and to register, visit www.ptnj.org or call 973-514-1787 X21.

Our classes are taught by trained professional theatre educators who have years of experience as working actors, writers, directors and teachers. Since new skills are presented each session, the classes are designed to be taken multiple times. At the end of each two week period, there is a "sharing" of class work for family and friends.

"These classes are process-oriented and designed to maximize the input of each student," said John Pietrowski, Playwrights Theatre's Artistic Director. "The theatre pieces the student's create are all original works that allow everyone to participate equally and to the best of their ability. Everyone has fun and learns a lot."

The Full-Day Theatre Academy (Monday through Friday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm) is designed for grades 4-6/7-9. Kids and Teens work with a team of artists to create an original play with music. The class will focus on the writing, performance, music, and production aspects of the play. Students explore each skill and learn how to weave the various elements together into an engaging, original performance piece presented to family and friends. Full-Day sessions are available for Session A (July 8-July 19) and Session B (July 22-August 2).

"Our daughter loved this two-week, full day program! She was fully engaged and had fun in every activity. Her confidence and creativity blossomed, too. Thank you!" Lindsay Forness, parent from Summer Camp

The Half-Day Summer Camp for kids and the Half-Day Summer Theatre Program for teens is an opportunity for students at all levels of experience to discover new facets of creativity while developing their theatrical skills. Tuition is $275 per two-week session, $250 for returning students.

Each session concludes with a presentation for family and friends and is designed to have a slightly different emphasis so students can take the same class several times and still have a high-quality learning experience.
