NJSO Presents 'Home for the Holidays With Brian Stokes Mitchell,' 12/9 & 10

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) kicks off its first 2011-12 NJSO POPS concert series with "Home for the Holidays with Brian Stokes Mitchell"-a festive concert program of timeless carols and holiday favorites featuring Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell. Constantine Kitsopoulos conducts; the Masterwork Chorus and New Jersey Youth Chorus also join the Orchestra onstage.

Renowned for his rich and commanding baritone, Stokes-of Man of La Mancha, Ragtime and Kiss Me, Kate fame-was dubbed Broadway's "Last Leading Man" by The New York Times. He will perform holiday classics including "The Christmas Song," "Sleigh Ride" and "The Little Drummer Boy." Stokes will present his legendary version of The Man of La Mancha's "The Impossible Dream," along with other Broadway surprises.

The program will feature the Masterwork Chorus in "This Christmastide," and the New Jersey Youth Chorus will take center stage for "Angel Carol." The NJSO program includes other holiday favorites like "White Christmas."

Performances take place on Friday, December 9, (8 p.m.) at the State Theatre in New Brunswick and Saturday, December 10, (8 p.m.) at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark. The December 9 performance is presented in collaboration with the State Theatre.
