My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! is written and performed by the Broadway star of the show, Steve Solomon. The show will be on stage on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 8:00 PM, at the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) in Rahway. It has now become one of the longest running one-man comedies in history, having just celebrated its 4000th performance. The show played for two sold-out years in New York City and has toured internationally in more than 100 cities. This will be the third time that Rahway audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the hit comedy. Broadwayworld.com had the opportunity to interview Steve Solomon about his fascinating career and the upcoming show at UCPAC.

Steve Solomon uses dialects, accents and sound effects to bring to the stage dozens of wild characters we all relate to. Nearly one million people worldwide have seen his shows. The audience follows along on this wonderfully funny journey about growing up, mixed marriages, ex-wives, dogs, cats, dieting and dozens of other hilarious situations.

Solomon told us a few tag lines from his show. "When I go to a family dinner, I come out with heartburn and a headache." He also said. "These are the people who gave me life and took it away." Solomon pointed out that his audiences laugh out loud and empathize with the show.

For Steve Solomon, the road to a career in comedy began during his childhood in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, where he picked up the many accents and dialects he heard on the streets of his multi-ethnic neighborhood.

Solomon told us about one time that he used his talents as a teen. "I was always doing voices and impersonations. When I was 13, I delivered Chinese food in Brooklyn and would imitate a Chinese voice to customers."

But Solomon's career was not always in comedy. Even though he was considered a "class clown" as a youngster, Solomon also became a physics teacher and an assistant superintendent of schools on Long Island.

We asked Solomon about some of the comedians or theatrical greats that have inspired his career. He stated that he considers Jonathan Winters as a "comic guru." He also commented, "I love George Carlin and had the pleasure of opening for him in the early '90's." Solomon said that he admires the comedic art of Soupy Sales and Carl Reiner.

And Solomon also spoke about good times with his close friends in the business. It was not uncommon for him to gather with renowned group of comedians over a deli lunch in New York City.

We asked Solomon how he feels about his audiences as he visits so many places in the country. "The Northeast area has very captive audiences and I love the Florida audiences." Solomon currently makes his home in both Georgia and Florida.

My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy! has spun off three sequels, My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm STILL in Therapy! andMy Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm Home for the Holidays.
