David Compton, brilliant and beloved actor, director, designer, teacher and friend, died in the morning hours of May 4, 2016. He died peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

A public memorial service and celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Nashville Children's Theatre. Doors will open at 2:00 pm with the event starting at 2:30 pm.

After being born in Badin, North Carolina and attending University of North Carolina Greensboro, David made his way to Nashville. David's remarkable career spanned over thirty years in Nashville theatre, including eight years as the Head of the Upper School Drama Department at Franklin Road Academy.

He performed on nearly every stage in Nashville including Nashville Children's Theatre, Nashville Repertory Theatre, the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, Blackbird Theater, Studio Tenn, and Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre. He directed and choreographed countless plays and musicals over the years and designed and built sets for numerous productions.

David had a unique and remarkable talent and it's unfair that a man who brought so much life to the stage has been forever taken from it. David Compton was, and always will be, the finest artist our community has been lucky enough to call their own.

David is survived by his partner Amanda Card Compton, his mother Jo, his brothers Jim and Rob, his sister Becky, his extended family, friends, and loved ones throughout Nashville and beyond.

In lieu of flowers, David's loved ones ask that you make donations in his name to Nashville Children's Theatre nashvillechildrenstheatre.org.
