Dog in the Door Theater for Kids (DITD) announces a special workshop day event to celebrate their two-year anniversary of "lively stage fun for children."

Students, ages 3-12, are invited to register for one of two "Puppet Extravaganza" workshops today, May 5. Workshop participants will learn to create their own colorful, character puppets from new and found materials in a "make and take" workshop, followed by a lively, kid-created puppet parade and spectacle for family and friends. The workshops will also include theater games and activities.

The one-day event will take place at Merrill Community Center, 380 Rivertown Drive, Suite 200, Woodbury, MN 55125. Cost for the workshop is $15 per student. Each student may bring one friend for free. The workshop for ages 3-7 will be from 9:00-11:30 a.m., with a performance for family and friends at 11:10 a.m.; ages 8-12 will be from 1:00-3:30 p.m., performance at 3:10 p.m.

Between workshop sessions, workshop registrants will enjoy complimentary refreshments, face-painting, and the music of local acoustic guitarist John Moore.

"May is truly a merry month and we're incredibly happy to celebrate with fun times and theater training for young children," says DITD Founding Director, Michelle Storm. "We hope families will enjoy themselves, and come back again for more of what we have to offer… a lively, active, vibrant stage experience for their kids. Our classes offer camaraderie, confidence-building, and a special community where kids can get creative!"

Dog in the Door Theater for Kids is a premiere for-profit theater school for children, located in the eastern Twin Cities suburb of Woodbury, MN. It was started in May, 2010 by Storm, a licensed teacher and free-lance theater worker. Ms. Storm's lifelong dream was to bring high energy, high quality stage experiences to area youth. Her passion for the stage was ignited at a young age, as a summer student at the Children's Theatre Company, Minneapolis.
