The Boca Raton Theatre Guild
to present
Rodgers & Hammerstein's
Carousel
March 12-21

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild will reach for the brass ring when Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved Carousel takes the stage at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park.  The award-winning musical will open on March 12th and run through March 21st.

Adapted for the American stage from Ferenc Molnar's 1909 play, Liliom, Carousel was one of the first musicals to contain a tragic plot. It is also unique among Rodgers and Hammerstein's works in that it does not have an overture, but begins with the Carousel Waltz.  Often cited by Richard Rodgers as his favorite musical, the play also introduced such classics as You'll Never Walk Alone,
June is Bustin' Out All Over, and If I Loved You.  Time Magazine named it the best musical of the 20th Century.

Director Keith Garsson explains, "Carousel contains some of the most lush musical pieces written for the stage, yet rather than a light story of young innocents, it instead deals with spousal abuse, social class, hypocrisy, and conduct.  It's a challenging piece for everyone involved - actors, musicians and the director.  But I know we've done it justice - in fact we're very, very proud of what we've accomplished."

"We've assembled an amazingly talented and dedicated cast and crew," Garsson says. "They've spent weeks turning this piece into a reality that I know audiences will find both moving and entertaining."

Many members of the Carousel cast are well known to South Florida audiences, including Jeanette Thompson (Julie Johnson), who returns to the BRTG after a stellar turn as Laurey in the Lake Worth Playhouse's recent production of Oklahoma; Nate Lauar (Billy Bigelow), last seen in Florida Atlantic University's production of Company; and Brave Fung, whose prior performances have included La Cage Aux Folles, Snoopy, Forever Plaid, and the Boca Raton Theatre Guild's production of Into the Woods.

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild is a community theatre and not-for-profit organization led by a group of volunteers dedicated to producing professional quality performances, advancing the art of theatre, and involving the community in all aspects of its activities.

Performances of Carousel are on Friday, March 12th, Saturday, March 13th, and Wednesday, March 17th - Saturday, March 20th  at 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday March  13th, Sunday, March 14th, Saturday March 20th and Sunday, March 21st  at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $18, and are on sale now.  $10 Student tickets (with I.D.) are also available.
