Riverside Theatre's 2014-2015 season continues with the award-winning play, Underneath The Lintel. This compelling adventure by Glen Berger is funny, touching and surprising and performs on the Waxlax Stage from January 27 through February 8, 2015. Underneath The Lintel is sponsored by Dick & Rosemary Haverland, John & Marilyn McConnell, Ray & Sonia McGowan, and Bobbie Olsen along with Riverside Theatre's Patron Producers.

On an inauspicious morning at a Dutch library, a librarian makes an unexpected find in the overnight return box - a weather-beaten Baedeker guidebook 113 years overdue. Determined to track down the borrower and give him "the fine of his life," the librarian studies the book for clues on the miscreant. With a 78 year old laundry ticket from a London shop as his first clue, the librarian starts his quest towards the owner's identity.

By following the clues, the librarian goes on a globe-trotting journey that takes him from London to China, from Australia to New York. Throughout his trek, he unlocks ancient mysteries and discovers life-changing truths about himself. Once a hunched over introvert, he morphs into a self reliant and confidant researcher who loves life's many adventures.

Written by Glen Berger in 2001, the play was first produced by the Actor's Gang in Los Angeles eventually moving to the Soho Playhouse in New York where it ran for 450 performances. T. Ryder Smith was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Player. A 2002 production at the Edmonton Shadow Theatre won the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Best Play, Best Actor and Best Director in 2003.

Mr. Berger has written over 150 episodes for children's TV, and has won two Emmys and twelve nominations for his works. His TV shows include Fetch and Arthur (PBS), Peep (TLC), and Big and Small (BBC). His play Great Men of Science Nos 21 & 22 won the Ovation Award for Best Play in 1998. In 2006, Mr. Berger also won an A.S.K. Playwright Award for The Wooden Breeks.

Directed by Riverside Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Allen D. Cornell, the production stars James VanValen as The Librarian.

Mr. Cornell will also serve as Scenic & Lighting Designer with the remaining design team consisting of Emily Baldwin (Costume Designer), Josh Schacht (Sound Designer) and Melissa Nathan (Stage Manager).
