The Florida State University Student Theatre Association presents their phenomenally heart-wrenching and thought-provoking spring musical production, See What I Wanna See, directed by FSU student Casey Vaughan. This production will run from April 19 - 21 in the Augusta Conradi Studio Theatre, located in the Williams Building.

The FSU Student Theatre Association (FSU STA) is a registered student organization that provides resources and educational support to students wanting to put on theatrical productions in Tallahassee. FSU STA possesses a board of undergraduate, graduate, and PhD representatives, as well as supportive faculty and staff, who are there to help students develop their projects.
See What I Wanna See is based on the works of Ryunosuke Akutagawa with music, lyrics, and book by Michael John LaChiusa. The plot follows three different storylines: the doomed affairs of two lovers in medieval Japan, the interrogation of individuals connected to a 1951 murder, and the struggle of a young priest to address the impact that the 9/11 tragedy has had on his faith.
Director Casey Vaughan expressed that she purposefully chose this musical after having an "eye-opening theatrical experience" when her high school tackled Act II of See What I Wanna See in 2007.
"The story isn't easy to swallow; you're actually going to have to turn your brain on in the audience," Vaughan explained. "But, as an Education major, I like brains best when they're turned on."
See What I Wanna See addresses such subjects as betrayal, murder, rape, the struggle for power, the search for identity, the existence of God, and the meaning of faith. It is a complex piece of work that will allow audiences to get in touch with their introspective selves; See What I Wanna See provides the platform for the Tallahassee community to embrace such a raw piece of theatrical art.
"In a time when politics and current events, and the constant battle about them that fills our Facebook newsfeeds, reinforce the idea that each person should champion and express his or her own belief unquestioningly, this show makes us ask questions," Vaughan remarked. "It embraces the questions. And it shows us all that these questions - not the answers we assume we possess - are what shape our humanity."
See What I Wanna See will be an extraordinary production that's bound to leave audience members utterly amazed and truly seeing what they want to see out of life itself. Vaughan imparts some wisdom for all who attend: "Come with an open mind."
Please note: This show is not recommended for children under 13.
