Madison Theatre Guild, a resident Participating Theatre Company of the Bartell Theatre, announces "Rock of Ages: The Broadway Musical Comedy" running March 2 - March 17, 2018 on the upstairs Drury stage at the Bartell Theatre, 113 E. Mifflin Street in Madison. The show is a co-production with OUT!Cast Theatre and is appropriate for people ages 12 and older.

Similar to "Xanadu", which was a crowd pleasing hit a few years ago at the Bartell, "Rock of Ages" is a jukebox style musical comedy spoofing the 1980s rock music scene. The show features over 20 classic songs from musicians including Journey, Pat Benatar, Styx, Foreigner, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Poison, Whitesnake and more. The show originally opened on Broadway in 2009 and ran for 6 years.

The production is being mounted with many of the same production people that work on recent Bartell musicals "The Rocky Horror Show," "Bare" and the aforementioned "Xanadu." But this production is notable for having all women in the top creative positions of director, choreographer, music director and stage manager.

Dana Pellebon, director of the show says "the 1980s rock scene was dominated by so many male egos, and this show really spoofs their over-the-top macho attitudes. So it's a blast to look at that crazy time through the eyes of all women with our show." Pellebon has directed many shows at the Bartell in addition to a long history of acting and singing. Lyn Pilch choreographs. Her recent credits include "The Rocky Horror Show," "Bare," "Christmas with the Crawfords" and "Xanadu." Erin McConnell is music director and recently acted in MTM's "Lizzie" and was music director for "The Rocky Horror Show."

"Rock of Ages" has a cast of 23 and a 5-person live band onstage.

"ROCK OF AGES: The Broadway Musical Comedy" plays Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sunday March 11 at 2pm and closing Saturday, March 17 at 2pm. The production is recommended for ages 12 and older. All tickets are $30 general admission seating. Purchase tickets online on the Bartell website: www.BartellTheatre.org, at the Bartell Box Office (open Tuesday-Friday 2pm-6pm) or by calling the Bartell Box Office at 608-661-9696.
