The Dramatists Guild of America and the Dramatists Guild Institute will gather some of the community's most influential theatre makers, artistic directors, literary managers, television writers, educators, lawyers and advocates for a weekend of events in Los Angeles, featuring a Town Hall event titled "The Future of New Play Production in Los Angeles." The Town Hall will be Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 7pm.

This panel discussion, moderated by the Guild's Los Angeles Regional Representative Josh Gershick, will explore how various stakeholders-artists, producers, unions, government, funders-are currently interacting, and what Dramatists Guild members (and the public) can do in the future to improve the environment and economic viability of developing new work, plus it will try to tackle the following questions: What is the current landscape of new play production in LA? What opportunities and challenges exist for developing new work?

Participating on the panel are Lindsay Allbaugh, Producing Associate at Center Theatre Group; Bronwyn Mauldin, the Director of Research and Education at the Los Angeles County Arts Commission; Steven Leigh Morris, Executive Director of L.A. Stage Alliance; Jon Rivera, Founding Artistic Director at Playwrights' Arena; and Aurin Squire, playwright, reporter and multimedia artist. The panel will take place in the Rotunda Room of the Veterans Memorial Building in Culver City.

Other events in the Dramatists Guild Institute weekend will cover a variety of topics from a behind-scenes-look into the writers' room of some of television's most influential programming to a look at various forms of dramatic structure, taking ownership of your career through re-examining the individual artist as CEO, an in-depth analysis of social media as a marketing tool, and the business affairs of the contemporary writer.

The weekend will culminate with a fundraising event for the Dramatists Legal Defense fund - a production of The 24-Hour Musicals: Los Angeles. The Institute programming is sold out, but tickets are still available for The 24-Hour Musicals event.
