The hilarious and enchanting The Princess and the Pea comes to Theatre for Young America on June 9 through June 26, 2015 to finish off TYA's 2014-2015 season. Performances take place on the H&R Block City Stage is on level B in Union Station. Union Station is located at 30 W. Pershing Road in Kansas City, Missouri 64108.

Based on Hans Christian Anderson's classic tale, this musical comedy is set in the mythical kingdom of Errinfaire, where peas are the main agricultural product and the source of the country's wealth. Errinfaire's young prince sets out from home to find a princess. Along his journey he crosses paths with the terrible Tackymucks, enemies of Errinfaire. They try to trick the young prince into proposing to a pair of surprisingly unappealing sisters. However, a young peasant girl just might thwart all their schemes and prove to have the super-sensitivity that only a true princess can possess. Will she sleep peacefully on a pile of twenty mattresses or will a tiny pea wreck her beauty rest and reveal her to be the young prince's soul-mate? The broadly comic climax features a battle of peashooters with the dreaded Tackymucks.

This version of The Princess and the Pea was written by Gene Mackey, with music by Cheryl Benge. Their delightful adaptation explores the world of the supersensitive, while telling a story of romance and the triumph of compassion over conflict.
