Peek into the 1930s Deep South with "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," showing through April 26 at the College of the Mainland Community Theatre.

From the author of "Driving Miss Daisy" comes a tale filled with wit and humor. While the specter of World War II looms in Europe, the Freitags, a German Jewish family, and their friends excitedly focus on the social event of the season, the Ballyhoo ball.

As one daughter scrambles for a date, the other finds her worldview challenged by a Brooklyn-born Jew, considered by her family to be lower on the social scale. As family tensions rise, relationships are strained, shatter and ultimately mend.
