On Monday evening, March 13, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston, introduces a screening of A Raisin in the Sun, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, at 7 p.m. Turner is the latest to add his name to the list of guest programmers for the popular Movies Houstonians Love series, which brings Houston leaders from all walks of life to the Museum to present a favorite film and share their love of cinema.

A Raisin in the Sun follows the Youngers, an African American Chicago family aspiring to achieve the American Dream. The matriarch Lena (Claudia McNeil) receives an insurance payment after her husband's accidental death. She plans to buy a house in a better neighborhood, but her son Walter (Sidney Poitier) wants to invest it in a liquor store that will generate income. Tensions among the family members are complicated by the resistance of white residents who live near the new home. Daniel Petrie's direction earned him an award at the Cannes Film Festival, but it is playwright and screenwriter Lorraine Hansberry's sharply observed perspectives, realized in the memorable acting of McNeil and Poitier in particular, that assure this compelling film a place in cinema history.
