The Houston Symphony's Family Series returns to Jones Hall at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, just in time for Halloween. Led by Associate Conductor Robert Franz, the program will take audiences on A Magic Carpet Ride featuring music from Aladdin, including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me."

The orchestra will perform Rimsky-Korsakov's magical Scheherazade as Edgewood Elementary School music teacher Hope Shiver narrates the tale. Shiver, who has graced stages in Egypt, France and Iceland, has a longstanding relationship with the Houston Symphony, having sung selected compositions and narrated various children's stories, including Peter and the Wolf (in Spanish and English) Babar the Elephant, and Scheherazade several times over the past two decades. Based on the tale of One Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade evokes a sense of thrilling fairy-tale adventure.
