The Williamston Theatre is pleased to announce that the The Shubert Foundation has awarded the Williamston Theatre with a $10,000 Theatre Grant.

"The prestige that this grant from the Shubert Foundation carries cannot be understated," said Development Director Emily Sutton-Smith. "The Shubert Foundation is an anchor in the national theatre community, and they support the work of wonderful theatres all over the country. It is an honor to be a member of the national community, and to be recognized in this way. Arts funding continues to be challenging for companies like us to secure. So this grant is very important in supporting our overall operations."

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. The Foundation's Board of Directors believes that the most effective way to encourage the artistic process is by providing the general operating support that reinforces the structure that nurtures its development. Accordingly, The Foundation does not earmark its awards; all allocations are unrestricted.

The Shubert Foundation, Inc. was established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, and is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns/operates 21 theatres: 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre (The Little Shubert), and one each in Boston and Philadelphia. The Shubert Archive, a working repository of more than 10 million theatrical documents and related items, operates under The Shubert Foundation aegis.

The Williamston Theatre opened as an Equity theatre in June 2006 and has since mounted 53 fully professional productions. Currently on stage is John Patrick Shanley's Irish love story, Outside Mullingar. Performances run through June 21.
