The Underground Theatre returns to Detroit for its official third season. The theme for this summer is entitled, "The Fates We Choose". Each weekend in July will feature one of four exploratory works from the collaborative.

"The Fates We Choose" opens July 7th with The Witch of Edmonton by William Rowley, Thomas Dekker and John Ford; followed by Be a Good Little Widow by Bekah Brunstetter; Gallathea by John Lyly; and Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead by Bert V. Royal. Each of the four works creates a sense of wonder and familiarity, as we intrude on the lives of each intriguing universe. Enter the world of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead and retreat to an alternate reality of our childhood where we face the nauseating fate of CB and friends. Witch of Edmonton similarly brings us to a familiar world that shuns Elizabeth Sawyer, and she retreats to an all too well known human defense: revenge.

The collaborative presenting this season is run by students from Wayne State University with the support of the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. As The Underground Theatre reimagines the theatre experience, its vision encompasses fostering a deeper sense of community. Taking this into consideration, each production will feature a pre-show celebration of our works every Friday night with hors d'oeuvres supplied by surrounding Detroit restaurants.

Kate Martinez and Jared Morin take the helm of The Underground Theatre as Co-Artistic Directors this season. When asked about their take on the Underground, Jared responded, "The Underground has become a safe, experimental, and creative environment for the young artists of the area to explore their craft and innovate. We like to challenge ourselves and audiences to go deeper than the comfortable theatrical experience. For the artists that means finding their freedom outside of the typical expectation of the craft. For the audience that means opening up to an intimate theatrical experience crafted with great effort, creativity, and magic. We cannot wait to share with you "The Fates We Choose"."

Tickets start at $12, and can be purchased by calling 313-577-2972, or by visiting the Wayne State University Theatre and Dance Box Office at 4743 Cass Avenue on the corner of Cass and Hancock. Tickets may also be purchased by visiting http://www.wsushows.com.

The Studio Theatre is an intimate, 110-seat, open-stage theatre in the lower level of the Hilberry Theatre on Wayne State University's campus that is often used for experimental, student, and classroom productions. Annual programming includes the Student Stage and the Louise Heck-Rabi Dramatic Writing Competition. For nearly fifty years, the Studio Theatre has presented outstanding theatre featuring WSU undergraduate students.
