For those who crave unique, Live Theatre, The Kitchen Plays will be serving an evening of original entertainment that's made to order. The event, taking place over two weekends in early October at Royal Oak Kitchen and Bath, offers a menu of six original short plays crafted by established Michigan playwrights and brought to life by a seasoned crew of actors and directors. During the evening's performances, the Woodward Avenue business will transform from an elegant remodeling showroom by day to a live-performance theatre, with a buffet of food and beverages concluding the show.

The production, titled The Kitchen Plays, presents six short one-act plays written specifically for this event by Kim Carney (Beverly Hills), Lori Eaton (Birmingham), David MacGregor (Hartland), Maggie Patton (Ferndale), Janet Torreano Pound (West Bloomfield), and Marty Shea (Detroit). The action of each play is set within the confines of a kitchen with the audience moving easily from model kitchen to kitchen as the evening progresses. The event concludes with themed hors d'oeuvres and refreshments that relate to each play.

Early in 2012, the group of established Michigan playwrights began meeting regularly to discuss their work at the after-hour showrooms of Royal Oak Kitchen and Bath. The local business is owned by Tim Holton, the husband of participating, award-winning playwright Kim Carney. Fast forward to four evenings in early-October, and the beautiful kitchen and bath displays will work overtime as theatre sets for this unique entertainment event.

Producer Heidi Bennett has gathered six professional theatre directors, including Barton Bund, Yolanda Fleischer, Julia Glander, Lynch R. Travis, Michelle LeRoy and Sara Wolf Molnar, to take the plays from script to stage.

All performances will take place at Royal Oak Kitchen and Bath, located at 32790 Woodward Avenue (just south of 14 Mile Road), Royal Oak, MI 48073. Free parking is available at the rear of the storefront. Performances take place at 8pm tonight October 4, 5, 11, and 12. Advanced ticket purchases are strongly recommended, as seating is very limited. Tickets are available online at thekitchenplays.bpt.me beginning September 9. Reservations may also be made by phone at 248.658.8390. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 for students. This production is recommended for mature audiences only.
