Jay Ungar and Molly Mason to Perform at Dennos Museum Center

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College is pleased to present Jay Ungar and Molly Mason in Milliken Auditorium, Friday, January 13, 2017 at 8pm. Tickets are $27 in advance, $30 at the door, $24 for Museum Members plus a $2 processing fee. Jay Ungar & Molly Mason have become one of the most celebrated duos in the American acoustic music scene. Their consummate musicianship incomparable warmth and wit, and obvious love of the music have delighted audiences worldwide. You may know them from A Prairie Home Companion or from film soundtracks such as Legends of the Fall and Brother's Keeper.

Jay's fiddling is brimming with playfulness, drama, soulfulness and technical verve, as he explores the many musical styles and idioms that he has internalized and made his own. Molly's total mastery and inventiveness on piano and guitar is always spot-on, as she supports the tunes and follows the flow of the melody. Her rich and expressive vocals along with the resonant strains of Jay's violin, reveal the deep emotions that flow in the duos veins.

Millions were entranced by the music they did for Ken Burns' PBS documentary The Civil War. Their performance of the series' signature tune, Jay's haunting composition, Ashokan Farewell, earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy and Ashokan Farewell was nominated for an Emmy.

The Dennos concert series presents a diverse lineup of exciting performances in one of the best concert venues in the region. Our state-of-the-art sound, professional staff, and comfortable seating present an exceptional experience from any seat in the house. The adjoining museum serves as a beautiful and spacious reception area where you can meet the performing artists, or view the current exhibitions.
