As a part of our commitment to diversity, Detroit Public Television (DPTV) provides over 25 hours of coverage of the 2017 SphinxConnect conference [formerly known as SphinxCon] LIVE from the Westin Book Cadillac located in the heart of Detroit.

Our coverage began last night with an Opening Plenary featuring a performance by Thomas Mesa and Xavier Foley, welcome address from Sphinx Organization President and Artistic Director, Afa S. Dworkin, and a look at the Sphinx founder's story with Aaron Dworkin and Melissa Harris-Perry. The Opening Plenary will be available on-demand at dptv.org/sphinx this afternoon.

Over the next two days SphinxConnect will allow musicians of color, industry leaders, students, diversity advocates and more to participate in almost 30 sessions dedicated to diversity in classical music, learn from and engage with more than 60 speakers, attend performances by the nation's top Black and Latino musicians, and most importantly establish a network to further diversity in the field with over 250 other musicians. Sessions include: Funding Inclusion, Beyond Music: Music-Based Projects to Improve Society, Building Your Brand, and many more!

Coverage of the 2017 SphinxConnect conference continues through Saturday, February 11th at 8pm ET. Watch the livestream by visiting dptv.org/sphinx.

Coverage Schedule:

[TODAY] Friday, February 10th 9am-9pm ET

[TOMORROW] Saturday, February 11th 9am-8pm ET

Full schedule available at www.sphinxmusic.org/sphinxconnect-schedule.

Coverage of the 2017 SphinxConnect is part of what DPTV is doing to celebrate Black History Month, but more importantly it is a celebration of our ethnically diverse, culturally rich, and ever evolving audience base that mirrors the Detroit Community.
