The award-winning Breckenridge Backstage Children's Theatre (The Hobbit, Two Dumb Dogs, Charlotte's Web) presents the Colorado premiere of Roald Dahl's delightfully twisted classic, The Witches, playing June 22 thru August 5.

In his scariest book, Dahl presents an allegory about the dangers children must endure when growing up - especially in the form of witches who appear as regular women living among us. You see, witches absolutely detest children. They find them revolting and are planning to wipe them out like weasels! They want to squish them and squiggle them and make them disappear. But one brave boy and his indomitable grandmother have a plan to get rid of the witches once and for all - if they can only avoid being turned into mice first!

With a book by famed children's theatre adaptor David Wood (James and the Giant Peach, Tom's Midnight Garden) and new music by Cory Wendling (BBT's The Jungle Book) and stage direction by award-winning BBT artistic director, Christopher Willard (Babe The Sheep-Pig, The BFG), this is a delightful and thrilling production for the whole family replete with exciting puppetry, amazing special effects, and clever music and dance sequences.

BBT's The Witches features Brody Lineaweaver as "Boy." Brody recently played Freddy in School of Rock and Young Simba in The Lion King Jr. He was also Mowgli in BBT's The Jungle Book. Mary McGroary (BBT's The Producers) plays Boy's loving and protective "Grandmother." Their nemesis, The Grand High Witch, is played by Sheila Swanson McIntyre (Arvada's Narnia) in a comically creepy performance not to be missed. An ensemble of versatile performers play other roles in the show including an assortment of witches, Boy's best friend Bruno Jenkins, a beleaguered doorman, the chefs and wait staff at the Hotel Magnificent, and many more. The ensemble stars Caitlin Conklin, Barret and Sydney Harper, and Connor Sullivan. The production includes lighting design by Jessica Buttery (BBT's The Producers), projection and sound design by Tom Quinn (BBT's The Producers), choreography by Abbey Austin (BBT's Spamalot), costume design by Susan Rahmsdorff-Terry (BBT's She Loves Me), property design by Beth Fisk and Crystal Goossen (BBT's The Lion King Jr), sound board operation by Patrick Middlebrook, and stage management by Lexi Holtzer.

The Witches is proudly sponsored The Andrea-Mennen Family Foundation.
