Westport Country Playhouse has partnered with Westport Animal Shelter Advocates (WASA) and the Pet Animal Welfare Society of CT (PAWS) around the Family Festivities show, "Are You My Mother?," based on the popular book about a baby bird searching for its mother. The pet adoption organizations will bring some of their dogs for possible placement with families, on Sunday, April 10, from 2 to 3:45 p.m., in the Lucille Lortel White Barn Center on the Playhouse campus. There will be a chance to meet dogs currently available for adoption with applications on hand to start the adoption process.

"The hope is to bring awareness of the pet adoption organizations to our audiences in between the performances of 'Are You My Mother?' and to get a few pups placed with new families," said Peter Chenot, Playhouse director of marketing. "I have a family of rescued cats and a dog so this is near to my heart."

"Are You My Mother?," a musical based on P. D. Eastman's whimsical and well-loved picture book, will be presented for two performances, at 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Running time is approximately one hour. Produced by ArtsPower, the show is recommended for grades pre-K and up. Tickets are $20.

In "Are You My Mother?," Baby Bird emerges from her shell and expects to be greeted by her mother's song. But her mother is not there. Where is she? Why isn't she home? With the help of Dog, Cat and Hen, Baby Bird sets out in search of Mother Bird.

Family Festivities shows are presented on selected Sundays from November through April. Family Festivities Corporate Sponsors are Pitney Bowes and Northwestern Mutual. Family Festivities Partner is Darlene Krenz. The Family Festivities Series is also supported by the Westport Young Woman's League.
