tamford Center for the Arts will be awarding its fourth Annual Emerging Young Artist Scholarship Award to a talented vocalist, in honor of Liza Minnelli in the Spring of 2013 at SCA's Ovations Gala. The recipient of this award will receive a $2,000 scholarship to pursue his/her musical education. The criteria and audition process for the scholarship is outlined on SCA's website at www.SCAlive.org on the Education page. The audition is open to all high school students, grades nine through twelve, who live in Fairfield County, CT. The deadline to submit the completed audition form, resume and CD is February 25, 2013.

Last year's recipient of the Annual Emerging Young Artist Scholarship Award was EJ Couloucoundis, an outstanding young vocalist from Darien High School who received recognition at last year's Liza Minnelli Gala Concert. EJ is now a college student at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York.

The other two scholarship winners, Anna Leunis and Danny Pravder, have had the opportunity to perform on the HARMAN Stage since receiving their scholarships. Danny played an original composition while dancers from the Ballet School of Stamford performed a choreographed piece set to his music at last year's Next Generation performance. Anna, SCA's very first scholarship winner, has performed during the first two Next Generation performances as well as playing in the orchestra that accompanied Clay Aiken's Joyful Noise Tour performance here at The Palace on December 6th.

"The Emerging Young Artist Scholarship is integral to SCA's Arts Education programs," said SCA Executive Director, Michael E. Moran, Jr. "We strive to give young artists in Fairfield County opportunities that are not necessarily available to them through the schools. And seeing these artists have the chance to perform at The Palace is just a small part of the fulfillment of our goal to nurture the next generation of performers."

Since its re-instatement three years ago, SCA's Education Department has presented a variety of artists and workshops for area youth and adults and plans to expand its programs and presentations going forward.
