LAR Enterprises Inc. presents "A Spectacular Evening of Doo-Wop" featuring a classic line-up of five, radio-favorite Doo-Wop acts at the Palace Theater in Waterbury on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 8p.m. Tickets for the concert are $55 and can be purchased online at www.palacetheaterct.org, by phone at 203-346-2000, or in person at the Box Office, 100 East Main St. in Waterbury.

Jay Siegel's Tokens, the vocal group that continues to distinguish themselves with the second-longest chart span in the history of Rock & Roll, are slated to headline the show and will perform their chart-topping singles "Tonight I Fell in Love," "Portrait of my Love," and the timeless hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." After first breaking onto the pop charts in 1961, THE TOKENS reemerged on the charts in the 1990s following the rerelease of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and were later inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.

Other groups scheduled to perform include Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Doo-Wop Hall of Fame inductees THE LEGENDARY TEENAGERS ("Why Do Fools Fall in Love," "ABC's" "Goody, Goody"), JIMMY GALLAGHER & THE PASSIONS ("Just to Be with You, "I Only Want You," "Gloria"), THE DUBS ("Could This Be Magic" "Don't Ask Me to Be Lonely") and the award-winning acapella group CLASSIC SOUNDS.

Considered one of the most popular genres of Rock & Roll and R&B in the late '50s, the term "Doo-wop" was derived from the sounds made by the group's vocalist as they provided harmonic background for the lead singer. Despite its mainstream popularity, Doo wop faded out of the spotlight in the early '60s, but its influence was felt throughout popular music in the decades to follow.
