Gregg Edelman and Maria Tucci to Lead Westport Country Playhouse's THE BREAD WINNER Reading

Tony Award nominated actors Gregg Edelman and Maria Tucci are among the cast members in the comedy, "The Bread Winner" by W. Somerset Maugham, presented as a Script in Hand playreading at Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, June 25, 7 p.m. They will be joined by Outer Critics Circle nominee Patricia Kalember, currently appearing on Broadway in "Don't Dress for Dinner." The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, the series' curator. Tickets to the one-night-only event are $15.

The cast, in alphabetical order:

Justin Scott Brown, in the role of Patrick Battle, portrayed Jack in Westport Country Playhouse's recent production of "Into the Woods" and was in the national tours of "Les Misérables" as Marius and "Spring Awakening."

Gregg Edelman (Charles Battle) received four Tony Award nominations for "City of Angels," "Anna Karenina," "1776," and "Into the Woods." He won the Drama Desk Award for "1776," and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for "Wonderful Town." Later this year, he will star on Broadway in the revival of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood."

Ryan Garbayo (Tim Granger) appeared last year at Westport Country Playhouse in "Suddenly Last Summer." He was in "Much Ado About Nothing" at The Shakespeare Theatre, DC, and "The Time of Your Life" at the Attic Theater.

Betty Gilpin (Judy Battle) was in Westport Country Playhouse Script in Hand playreadings of "Holiday" and "Butterflies Are Free." Off-Broadway, she has performed at Manhattan Theatre Club and Roundabout Theatre Company.

Patricia Kalember (Margery Battle) was in Westport Country Playhouse's "A Marriage Minuet." Her Broadway credits include "Don't Dress for Dinner" and "The Foreigner" (Outer Critics Circle nominee). Films include "Rabbit Hole" and "Signs." She was a series regular on television's "Sisters," "thirtysomething," and "Kay O'Brien."

Emily Kunkel (Diana Granger) has many regional theater credits including Actors Theatre of Louisville, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, and Barrington Stage Company. In New York, she appeared with Incubator Arts, EstroGenius, and New York International Fringe Festival.

Doug Stender (AlfRed Granger) was in Westport County Playhouse's "A Marriage Minuet" and Script in Hand readings of "Arsenic and Old Lace," "And Then There Were None," and "Stage Struck." His Broadway credits include "Pygmalion," "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial," "Noises Off," and "The Changing Room." He was in the National Tour of "Deathtrap" with Elliott Gould.

Maria Tucci (Dorothy Granger) was in the recent Script in Hand reading, "Morning's at Seven" at Westport Country Playhouse. On Broadway, she received a Tony Award nomination for "The Rose Tattoo," and appeared in "Mary Stuart," "Night of the Iguana, Athol Fugard's "A Lesson from Aloes," "Mrs. Warren's Profession," and "A Man for All Seasons."

"The Bread Winner" tells a tale of affluent families in 1930 suburban London. When spoiled children find their parents boring and entitled wives take their spouses for granted, what are hassled and overworked husbands to do? These self-absorbed lives are shaken to the core when one husband makes a shocking decision in this timely, comic satire about wealth and privilege.

Playwright W. Somerset Maugham was one of the most prolific and varied writers of the twentieth century. Among his many works, some of which were made into films, are "Of Human Bondage," "The Moon and Sixpence," "The Painted Veil," "The Razor's Edge" and "The Constant Wife."

Director and Script in Hand series curator Anne Keefe served as artistic director of Westport Country Playhouse, with JoAnne Woodward, in 2008 and as associate artistic director from 2000-2006, also with Ms. Woodward. She co-directed with Ms. Woodward The Westport Country Playhouse production of "David Copperfield," and directed many Script in Hand readings.

Upcoming Script in Hand play readings are scheduled for Mondays, November 12 and December 10, at 7 p.m. Titles will be announced.
