PlayhouseSquare is thrilled to announce that the critically acclaimed hit show A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN, which has been playing to rave reviews and sold out audiences throughout North America, will make it's Cleveland debut April 27th - May 1st.

A smash hit in New York City where it played for a more than a year and a half in the heart of Broadway, A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN tackles a very serious story with a uniquely entertaining and life affirming approach. As a boy, Ehrenreich wanted nothing more than to fit in. But the reality of being the first American-born child of Holocaust survivors with thick European accents made him do everything he could to conform to his vision of what it meant to be a "real" American. From the streets of Brooklyn and struggle with his family's past, to the laughter and rebirth of Catskills summers, this multi-media musical is "A delightful journey that speaks to anyone hoping to live out the American Dream" (ABC TV).

A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN is described as a "Heartwarming and Hilarious True Story of An American immigrant Kid". Through stories and songs, performed with a live band and multi-media video and photos - including a classic Rock Medley (California Dreamin', Secret Agent Man, Sunshine of Your Life), a multi-instrumental version of Louis Prima's Sing, Sing, Sing, and even a selection of Yiddish songs - Ehrenreich mesmerizingly recreates his family's unforgettable journey of discovery and lessons learned. His individual story is personal and universal at the same time. It is a unique take on our shared search for identity and meaning, and the lessons learned...no matter where we are from.

Jake Ehrenreich is a writer, actor, comedian and musician. He has appeared on Broadway in Dancin', Barnum, and They're Playing Our Song, and toured internationally as Ringo in Beatlemania. He has performed and recorded with such musical luminaries as Greg Allman, Richie Havens, Tito Puente and many more. A PBS documentary about Ehrenreich and his family's journey is in production and scheduled for 2011 completion, as is a related screenplay and a TV talk/variety show.

In addition, Ehrenreich's personal story has now spawned a book by Health Communications Inc., (the Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishers), called A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, The Curious Reflections of a First Generation American. Publishers Weekly acclaimed, "Ehrenreich proves inspirational and entertaining throughout, showing readers how he weathered troubled times to discover an unconditional love for life."
