The Hangar Theatre's 2013 KIDDSTUFF Season, a series of sparkling live theatre based on favorite children's books and stories, returns with another exciting lineup of plays and musicals for young audiences.

The season will kick-off with a cheery production of PINKALICIOUS the Musical (June 20 - 22), followed by an award-winning new play, With Two Wings (July 11 - 13). Next up is the jazzy, toe-tapping musical, A Year with Frog and Toad (July 18 - 20) followed by the beloved classic, James and the Giant Peach (August 1 -3). The season finishes with the "super-soul" musical The Wiz (August 15 - 17), a Tony Award-winning adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This special version for young audiences features students from the Hangar's Next Generation School of Theatre.

PINKALICIOUS the Musical

Pinkalicious is a young girl who loves the color pink. She's thrilled when she turns rosy herself after eating one too many pink cupcakes, but soon finds that being pink isn't all it's cracked up to be. Based on The New York Times best-selling children's book series, this fun-loving musical teaches to be careful what you wish for, and that a little self-control can go a long way.

With Two Wings

Inspired by the Greek myth of Icarus, the story unfolds in a magical land where people have wings. A young boy named Lyf finds himself grounded ? living an earthbound existence sheltered by his cautious parents. With the help of friends, Lyf must learn to grow up and spread his wings, knowing that he will always have a safe place to land. Winner of a 2009Kennedy Center Playwriting Award, this charming tale will captivate children and parents alike.

A Year With Frog and Toad

Book and Lyrics by Willie Reale, Music by Robert Reale

July 18 - 20

Based on Arnold Lobel's popular book series, this jazzy toe-tapping musical follows the woodland adventures of two best buddies, playful Frog and worrisome Toad. Join these lovable characters and their animal friends as they laugh and play, celebrating their differences and taking on challenges throughout the four fun-filled seasons!

James and the Giant Peach

Adapted for the stage by David Wood, from the book by Roald Dahl

August 1 - 3

See Roald Dahl's beloved story come to life! Young James Longs to escape when he is sent to live with his two loathsome aunts by the sea. When a mysterious man appears with a bag of magic, a peach and the bugs living inside grow to an enormous size. Together, James and his new friends embark on a fantastic journey sure to delight.

The Wiz

Theatre for Young Audiences version

August 15 - 17

Adapted for young audiences, this "super soul," musical version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz invites audiences to "Ease on Down the Road" with Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. In the Land of Oz, where magic and adventure are hidden around every turn, Dorothy tries to find her way home and discovers a power inside herself that she never knew she had. This celebrated musical, which won 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score, will feature students from the Hangar's Next Generation School of Theatre.

The Hangar Theatre champions arts education through year-round programming for children and families such as Spring Break-a-leg, the Next Generation School of Theatre, School Tours, and Project 4. Spring Break-a-Leg is a week-long musical theatre camp offering 4th - 6th graders the chance to experience all aspects of performance in a fast-moving, fun, and professional theatre environment from April 1-5, 2013. For students ages 8 to 18 looking for a summer adventure, the Next Generation School of Theatre offers a variety of classes taught by professional artists who work nationally in the performing arts and teach the most current techniques in their disciplines. Next Generation runs July through August. The most recent School Tour brings We Carry the Dream, a lively new play about the life and work of DR. Martin Luther Kings, Jr., to rural schools across Tompkins County. Lastly, the Hangar'sProject 4 brings teaching artists into 4th grade classrooms all over Tompkins County using theatre as an educational tool. These residencies currently serve the entire community and are provided for every elementary school in the Ithaca, Trumansburg, Newfield, and Lansing school districts.
