Shana Farr "Whistling Away the Dark: Through Songs of Julie Andrews" will perform at the METROPOLITAN ROOM February 25th (7:00pm) March 15th (9:30pm). $20.00 Music Charge / Two Drink Minimum, Food also available.

Inspired by the rich collection of lyrics and melodies that have become synonymous with Julie Andrews, "Whistling Away The Dark" is an hour of songs that represents not only  great American standards by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, the Gershwins, and The Sherman Brothers, but also beautiful, lesser known numbers by Henry Mancini, Arthur Schwartz, and Van Heusen.  Guided by director, Eric Michael Gillett, Shana Farr is a beautiful performer who interprets the lyrics with intelligence and confidence; Fred Barton created a masterpiece of musical arrangements, and Adam Fisher adds an unexpected musical depth with cello.

Shana has performed lead roles with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera; she has been seen at New York City Center with the New YorK Gilbert & Sullivan Players performing leading roles in "The Yeomen of the Guard" (Elsie Maynard) and the title role in Princess Ida. Her Off Broadway credits include "The Merry Widow" (title role), "The Music Man" (Marian Paroo), "Oklahoma!" (Laurey Williams), and "The Pirates of Penzance" (Mabel). Her regional/concert credits include "The Student Prince" (Kathie), "Madame Butterfly" (Kate Pinkerton), soloist with The South Shore Symphony and soloist with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, among others.

She has appeared in cabaret venues such as Feinstein's at The Regency, The Laurie Beechman Theatre (NYC), The Kranzberg Arts Center (St. Louis), the Tudor City Greens Concert Series (NYC), and several others. On television, Shana has guest hosted jewelry segments on shopping channels all over the world. When she is not busy performing, Shana manages her own premium fashion line of silver and gemstone jewelry Shana Farr Pure Imagination that will be launching this Spring. She learned the art of fine jewelry design while employed for several years at the luxury jeweler Harry Winston, after which she worked with a high-end, couture fashion designer, increasing her knowledge of the fashion world.
