On Monday, April 20, 2015 at 7:30PM, Venezuelan singer, songwriter and storyteller Migguel Anggelo returns to Joe's Pub at The Public (425 Lafayette, NYC) to celebrate the release of his new album La Casa Azul (April 21) and debuting a brand new show, under the direction of Obie Award-winner David Drake. Tickets are ($20) available online, via phone (212.967.7555) or in person at The Public's Box Office (425 Lafayette, NYC).

Drake, best known as the creator of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, brings Anggelo's journey as an immigrant and dreamer, traveling around the globe and finding home in New York City, to the stage. "One of the most inspiring aspects of directing and shaping Migguel's new show has been giving theatrical life to his very personal story from Venezuela to America," says Drake. He goes on to say "Through that kind of unique Magic Realism which seems to course through his South American blood, I've found that Migguel's immigrant journey is utterly universal. Indeed, the quest for safety, love, and freedom of expression is at the heart of all of our stories."

Known for electric performances, theatrical music, and poetry, Anggelo will perform original songs including, "Inmigrantes," "La Casa Azul" and "Libre" as well as interpretations of Latin, folk, pop and opera works in this new show.

The show will also celebrate the release of Anggelo's latest album, La Casa Azul, produced by Mau Quiros and mixed by Grammy-winner Felipe Tichauer.?? The album, which will be released on April 21, 2015, has been called "a masterpiece of enormous artistic and intellectual quality" by El Molino. This collection of 12 songs explores topics ranging from the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to commentary on the hypocrisy of the world's dictators. Lyrically filled with metaphors and references to art, culture and poetry, the album reflects the depth of thought he has invested in his craft.

There will be an encore performance of Anggelo's show on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30PM at Joe's Pub. Tickets are available now.

Brooklyn-based, Venezuelan-born Migguel Anggelo is a dynamic singer known for his electric stage performances. Cutting his teeth in the worlds of musical theater and opera, Anggelo brings larger-than-life emotions to his more intimate shows. Migguel, who studied opera in Cologne, Germany, has always loved the drama and discipline of opera and the explosive whimsy of pop. A storyteller by nature, he paints images using simple and innocent gestures, creating theatrical metaphors that blur the boundaries between performance art and popular music and reminding us that the way a story is told is just as important as the actual story itself.

David Drake (Director) has staged new plays and musicals in NYC at HERE (Taylor Mac's The Lily's Revenge; Obie Award), The Public's "Under the Radar" Festival (The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac), Rattlestick (Star Struck), Theatre for the New City (Jesus & Mandy), Manhattan Theatre Source (That Woman: Rebecca West Remembers), and productions in the NYC Fringe Festival, NYMF, and Frigid Festival. Twice a Directing Fellow at the Sundance Theatre Lab, David has directed regionally and internationally, including productions at London's Soho Theatre, Sydney's Opera House, the Spoleto and Edinburgh festivals, and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. As a playwright/performer, David is the creator of one of the longest-running solo shows in New York theater history, The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, for which he won an Obie Award.
