Spider-Man web-slung his way from the roof of the American Museum of Natural History and down the Central Park West façade today, Wednesday, June 27, as part of Spider-Man week in New York City. Spider-Man was at the Museum to hand-deliver a live Chilean rose tarantula to Norman Platnick, the curator of the upcoming exhibition Spiders Alive!, which opens at the Museum on July 28.

Andrew Garfield, the actor who plays Peter Parker in the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man, will also make an appearance. This event coincides with the one-week celebration leading up to The Amazing Spider-Man, which opens nationwide on July 3.

Featuring a variety of your favorite neighborhood spiders (and others from more far-flung locations), Spiders Alive! will showcase the fascinating and complex world of arachnids. For centuries, spiders have inspired mythmakers from Ovid to E. B. White to the creators of the eponymous superhero, but their actual role in diverse ecosystems around the globe is just as captivating. In addition to live spiders representing approximately 20 species, the exhibition will also include larger-than-life models of spiders, a climbable spider model, fossils, and more.
