NBC News Education Nation is convening parents, thought leaders, policy makers, TEACHERS and students for a live, two-hour forum in Baltimore on Thursday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Baltimore Museum of Art's Meyerhoff Auditorium. From parent engagement to encouraging students to reach for higher education to supporting students' social and emotional development - the forum will cover a wide range of issues faced by students across the country.

NBC News Chief Education Correspondent Rehema Ellis will moderate panel discussions throughout the event, and will be joined by WBAL-TV Education Reporter Dr. Tim Tooten. The event will take place just before the one-year anniversary of Freddie Gray's death. Speakers will also discuss last year's civil unrest in Baltimore and the impact on students.

Produced by NBC News Education Nation with Baltimore affiliate WBAL-TV, and supported by Pearson, the forum will be live-streamed on ParentToolkit.com, NBCLearn.com, and broadcast live on WBAL-TV. The event will feature powerful videos highlighting real families, as well as six panel discussions:

Parents are Powerful

Parent involvement has often been cited as one of the keys to helping students perform academically and socially. This panel discussion will offer a broad overview of the topic of parent engagement, explore some of the specific efforts underway in Baltimore City and County aimed at increasing parent involvement.

Healthy Living, Happy Kids

The World Health Organization stresses that one of the most effective ways to help youth reach their full academic potential is to reduce health disparities. How can schools, parents and community members work together to implement health and wellness programs to ensure all students are reaching their full potential?

Beyond the Classroom

While most schools and parents focus on supporting children's academic success, far less time is usually spent on children's social and emotional development. This panel will delve into the different aspects of social and emotional development, and highlight innovative programs that are working with parents and students.

Education as Empowerment

The death of Freddie Gray and the unrest that followed had a profound impact on the city as a whole, but especially on its students. With the one-year anniversary of the event approaching, this panel will look at how schools and the community are helping Baltimore students not only move forward, but feel empowered.

Advocating for Equity

In theory, the American public school system should provide every child with a high-quality education. But in reality, some schools are very high performing, and others are struggling. As a parent, how can you be the best advocate for your child? What are Baltimore City and County schools and school districts doing to give every child the best education possible?

Dream Big, Start Now

With a number of Baltimore City's students being the first in their families to go to college, many seek information and guidance to help make their dreams a reality. But whether they're first-generation or not, the road to higher education is complicated. This panel will showcase ways parents and students can navigate the path and attain higher education.
