This spring, pop singer Clay Aiken will be running for one of North Carolina's seats in the House of Representatives. If he is victorious at the Democratic primary to take place on May 6th, he will move on to the general election. According to E!Online, he will have the support of his former 'American Idol' co-star Ruben Studdard to boost his campaign.

Studdard has released a radio spot defending Aiken in regards to recent attacks from his opposition. "I'm proud to call him my friend, but you'll be proud to call him your congressman," Studdard stated. "Truth is, Clay's dedicated his life to helping people with disabilities. "Now Clay's foundation helps children with special needs in 35 states. That's the real Clay Aiken, and Congress needs more people like him."

Since his appearance on 'American Idol' Aiken has since gone on to release six albums, gain numerous television and theatre credits, and promote various children's and education causes, including NIF and UNICEF. He has also served on the Presidential Committee For People with Intelluctual Disabilities.

Aiken recently appeared on 'The Colbert Report' to promote his campaign efforts. "I think people are very fed up with the kind of tone-deaf representation they've had," he claimed. "We've got a representative now who has completely ignored the people she was elected to represent."

If elected, Aiken hopes to bring more awareness to child and education centered issues.
