Borta is deeply devoted to the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer. Her mother and both grandmothers had breast cancer, and one of her grandmothers died from the disease. She was honored for her work in the fight against breast cancer with the Macy's "Heart and Soul Award" in 2000 and the inaugural Strasburger "Commitment to the Cure" award in 2005. Borta has served as an honorary co-chair for both the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure and the Komen North Texas Plano Race for the Cure. Also, she has supported, since their inception, the survivors' luncheon sponsored by the Joanie Hatcher Memorial Survivors Endowment Fund and the Celebrating Women luncheon presented by the Baylor Sammons Breast Center.
