Variety reports that 'Downton Abbey' star Michelle Dockery will take on the female lead role in Netflix's upcoming mini-series GODLESS. She joins previously announced cast members Jeff Daniels and Jack O'Connell.

"Godless" centers on "Frank Griffin (Daniels), an outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode (O'Connell), his partner turned mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher's (Dockery) ranch, Frank's chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle, N.M. - which is mysteriously made up entirely of women."

Scott Frank will write, direct and executive produce the project from Steven Soderbergh. Filming is set to get underway in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The series will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2017.

Dockery is best known for her role as Lady Mary Crawley in the ITV drama series DOWNTON ABBEY (2010-2015), for which she has been nominated for three consecutive Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. She made her professional stage debut in His Dark Materials in 2004. For her role as Eliza Doolittle in the 2007 London revival of Pygmalion, she was nominated for the Evening Standard Award.

The actress starred in the 2009 play Burnt by the Sun, for which she earned an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her other notable stage credits include Pillars of the Community (2005) and Hamlet (2010). She has also appeared in the films Hanna (2011), Anna Karenina (2012) and Non-Stop (2014) and will soon be seen on TNT's "Good Behavior," set to premiere later this fall.
