Viktoria Vizin will sing the title role in Bizet's Carmen tonight at 8:00 p.m., replacing Olga Borodina, who is ill.

Vizin made her Met debut last season as Maddalena in Rigoletto. The Hungarian mezzo-soprano has sung Carmen at the Royal Opera Covent Garden, as well as in Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Budapest, Essen, and Düsseldorf. She made her Vienna State Opera debut in 1999 as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and has sung in many leading opera houses in both Europe and North America.

The new production of Carmen, directed by Richard Eyre, also features Barbara Frittoli as Micaëla, Brandon Jovanovich in his Met debut as Don José, and Mariusz Kwiecien as Escamillo. Alain Altinoglu conducts in his Met debut.
