The New York Times' ArtsBeat blog reports that Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Wendy White, who was hospitalized after an 8-foot fall in December 2011 when a set piece broke during a performance of Faust, has filed suit against the Met.

"She has nerve damage, and she is unable to sustain notes, and she has problems standing for long periods -- all the physical requirements necessary to perform an opera," said White's lawyer Martin Edelman.

White is seeking compensation for medical care, loss of wages and pain and suffering. The lawsuit will be served to the Met on Monday, August 5. No specific amount of money is outlined in the suit.

White has performed in more than 500 performances with the Met. She launched her career in La Traviata in 1989.
