Met Opera Announces Sunday Openings

The Met will offer open visiting hours and brunch service at the Grand Tier Restaurant every Sunday beginning December 4. The Sunday openings are an expansion of the company's "open house" initiative launched last month, which allows members of the public free access to the Metropolitan Opera House's public spaces on weekday mornings.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Sunday, the Met's front-of-house spaces, including the famous grand staircase, crystal chandeliers, and balcony overlooking Lincoln Center Plaza, will be open to the public. Visitors will also have free access to Gallery Met, which presents contemporary art exhibitions on operatic themes, and a special exhibition in Founder's Hall celebrating the 50th anniversary of the company's move to Lincoln Center. Personal photography will be permitted in all public areas of the house, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Grand Tier Restaurant will be open for brunch service on Sundays between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling (212) 799-3400 or visiting metopera.org. In addition, brunch patrons can enjoy a free 20-minute recital by a member of the Met's acclaimed Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. each Sunday.

The Met's Sunday hours will continue from December 4 through the end of opera season. The Met's public hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Saturdays, the house is open only to ticket holders for one of the day's two performances.
