Jane Archibald to Play 'Adele' at Select Performances of Metropolitan Opera's DIE FLEDERMAUS

Jane Archibald will sing the role of Adele in all 14 performances of the new production of Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus at the Met this season. Christine Schäfer, originally scheduled to sing the first six performances of the opera, is ill and unable to travel to the Met for rehearsals. Archibald was originally scheduled to sing the final eight performances of the run.

Canadian soprano Archibald made her Met debut in 2010 as Ophélie in a new production of Thomas's Hamlet. Her other performances this season include Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos at the Bavarian State Opera and the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and Olympia in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann at Zurich Opera. She has previously sung Adele with Geneva Opera.

The new production of Die Fledermaus, directed by Jeremy Sams, will be performed in English with lyrics by Sams and dialogue by Douglas Carter Beane in his Met debut. Adam Fischer conducts a cast that also includes Susanna Phillips as Rosalinde, Anthony Roth Costanzo as Orlofsky, Michael Fabiano as Alfred, Christopher Maltman as Eisenstein, Paulo Szot as Dr. Falke, Patrick Carfizzi as Frank, and Danny Burstein in his Met debut as Frosch. Die Fledermaus will open on New Year's Eve, December 31, with additional performances on January 4, 7, 11 matinee, 15, 18 matinee, February 3, 5, 8, 11, 13, 15 matinee, 20, and 22.
