What a night! A portentous storm raged across Sydney, matching the intensity of the opening storm scene that sets the mood of Iphigénie en Tauride. Inside Angel Place, from the very first note, we were riveted to the drama, the extraordinary singing, and the stunning set and costume design.

The audience was suitably stunned by our opening night performance, and many of you have been moved already to write and tell us your thoughts:

'The impact of that opening scene was extraordinary - particularly so because the audience had had to battle the raging storm that hit Sydney last evening to reach the Recital Hall! I was immediately engrossed and drawn into the production, and to the story, which still has such relevance to our world today.

'Glorious music and voices, stunning lighting, costumes etc etc - the "whole" was absolutely superb in every way.' Prue

'Congratulations!? Brilliant singing, playing and artistic realisation. A fine team effort (your best since Griselda).' Mary

'Wonderful performance! Thank you for all your diligent work on our behalf. Last night's performance was spectacular and FANTASTIC music.' Gillian

See it twice! And the first review is in. Reviewer Clive Paget from Limelight says 'see it twice.'

'With this, their latest and possibly finest staging to date, Pinchgut have done Sydney audiences a real service in presenting one of the greatest Classical period operas in an outstanding production, and crowned by Caitlin Hulcup's sublime Iphigénie.

See it if you can - better still, it's Gluck so see it twice.'

Clive Paget Limelight magazine

And over on twitter...

'Caitlin Hulcup (Iphigénie) & Grant Doyle (Oreste) need to get together more often on the stage. Two soaring performances.' @operachaser

'Memorable night with @operaturban at @pinchgut Iphigénie en Tauride @CityRecitalHall. Two storms one operatic; one diluvial. Great singing.' @ninox950

If you haven't yet bought your tickets, we urge you not to miss out on this committed, dramatic and stylish production. Please don't miss this opportunity to hear Caitlin's performances, Gluck's magical and revealing score, or the spine-tingling sounds of Cantillation, our chorus.

The performance on Sunday 7 December is completely sold out (hurrah!), but there are still some good seats available on Friday 5 December & Tuesday 9 December. Don't forget the evening start time is 7pm!

To purchase tickets, please call the City Recital Hall box office on 02 8256 2222 or visit www.cityrecitalhall.com
