Grand Opera of Belarus Presents Puccini's MADAM BUTTERFLY, 3/3

Puccini's Madam Butterfly will be presented by the Grand Opera of Belarus at the Wyvern Theatre on Sunday 3 March at 7:30pm. The renowned opera tells the magnificent story of a trusting Japanese maiden that catches the attention and affections of an American officer. In order to become his bride she must cross cultural boundaries and defy the will of her family. Alone, she faithfully awaits his return. However, she has a serious dilemma at her hands. Madam Butterfly is a deeply tragic and gripping opera that will truly affect its spectator.

"Cio-Cio-San is the real name of Madam Butterfly, which means Butterfly in Japanese," explains Grand Opera of Belarus' spokesman Julia Ignatowa.

Patrons may book tickets for £22-39 today here or by calling the Ticket Office on 01793 524 481.

Nina Scharubina, who plays Madam Butterfly, was taken to the the exotic showplace, bright with colour and fluttering wings, to see some of the 30 species of butterfly that The Farm houses. Hundreds of the beautiful butterflies fly around at any one time in the 600 square metre hot house, which also houses over 200 varieties of tropical plant.

"The Wyvern is very proud of the variety of art-forms we present. I am delighted to see opera take centre stage and can promise audiences a memorable experience," says Theatre Director Derek Aldridge. "Live operatic singing is a truly breath-taking skill to witness and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster."
