FRESHLY BREWED at OPERA America - Dramatizing History Sunday January 30th, 2011 at 1PM
Tickets Must be Purchased in Advance!

We look forward to the next event in our FRESHLY BREWED series at OPERA America this weekend, on Sunday January 30th at 1:00 PM. January's FRESHLY BREWED will be the culmination of composer Anthony Davis's winter residency at ALT, during which artists in the Composer Librettist Development Program have been exploring the challenges of dramatizing history for the opera stage. Guest singers from the country's leading opera houses join us for a program of newly written scenes based on real-life figures past and present, including Emperor Hirohito, Josephine Baker, Carlo Gesualdo, and Sarah Palin! The concert will include a discussion exploring the challenges of dramatizing history, as well as the process behind collaboration between Composers and Librettists and the development of new works. A light brunch will also be served, providing a wonderful, casual opportunity to meet and get to know the next generation of American operatic writers.

American Lyric Theater Resident Artist Composers to be featured include Christopher Cerrone, Justine F. Chen, Gerald Cohen, and Nkeiru Okoye; alongside Librettists Tony Asaro, Rochelle Bright and David Simpatico. Guest Artists include Soprano Katherine Jolly (Florida Grand Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis), Mezzo Soprano Heather Johnson (Boston Lyric Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Carnegie Hall), Tenor Darren Anderson (Boston Lyric Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Santa Fe Opera), Bass Baritone Andrew Nolen (Seattle Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Edinbugh Festival), and Pianist Leesa Dahl (Fort Worth Opera, Gotham Chamber Opera).

Tickets, which include a light brunch, are available for $15 through SmartTix at https://www.smarttix.com/Show.aspx?ShowCode=FRE45. Advance purchase is required. Due to limited seating capacity at OPERA America, tickets are strictly limited and will not be sold on the day of the event. Please note that ticket sales will close this Saturday at noon.

OPERA America is located at 330 Seventh Avenue (between 28th and 29th), on the 16th Floor. Doors will open for ticket holders at 12:30 PM. We hope to see you on Sunday!
