Eugene Opera has announced that poor ticket sales has resulted in them cancelling the rest of their season.

On their official website, they say:

Eugene Opera regrets to announce that West Side Story and La Tragédie de Carmen will not be presented as originally scheduled for March and May 2017.

The gap between production costs and income has grown over the past few years.? We are taking a pause in our production schedule to address this gap and plan for the future. This step is necessary in order to make sure that our productions are of the highest possible quality and consistent with fiscal responsibility.

During this pause, we will consult with our patrons, our supporters, and our community as we determine what changes are needed in order to serve our mission most effectively. The Eugene Opera board and staff are fully committed to restoring the company to financial health so we can do what we do best: create live opera in Eugene.

We are preparing to hold open Town Hall meetings with the community. In these meetings, we will present a transparent picture of Eugene Opera's financial condition. We will share our ideas for turning the company around, and we will listen to suggestions and feedback from the community to help us develop our plans.

The Town Hall meeting schedule will be published on this website as soon as it is available.

We invite you to send us your comments or suggestions at feedback@eugeneopera.com.
