Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak will be speaking at the Gallo Center for the Arts on Saturday, August 16. Billed as "An Evening with Woz," the program will begin at 7:30 pm.
Tickets for the event are priced from $15 to $100, and may be purchased online at www.galloarts.org, by calling 209-338-2100, or from the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto. A $100 ticket includes a pre-show opportunity to meet Wozniak, subject to availability.
Wozniak's appearance is a joint presentation by the Gallo Center and Stanislaus County Office of Education. It benefits SCOE's "Destination Graduation," a multi-year initiative intended to increase the percentage of students in Stanislaus County who graduate with a high school diploma. Tom Changnon, Stanislaus County's superintendent of schools, a former high school classmate of Wozniak's, was instrumental in arranging for his speaking engagement at the performing arts venue. A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than 30 years, Wozniak helped shape the computing industry with his revolutionary designs. He and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer in 1976 with Wozniak's Apple I personal computer. The following year, he introduced his Apple II personal computer, featuring a central processing unit, a keyboard, color graphics, and a floppy disk drive. The Apple II was integral in launching the personal computer industry. Wozniak would go on to influence the design of the Macintosh computer, as well.Videos
