Andriana Chuchman will sing the role of Valencienne in this season's April and May performances of Lehár's The Merry Widow, replacing Danielle de Niese, who has withdrawn due to pregnancy.

The Canadian soprano made her Met debut as Adina in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore last season. Her other performances with the company have included Miranda in the Baroque pastiche The Enchanted Island and Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. In recent seasons, she has sung Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel at Glyndebourne, Guenevere in Camelot at the Glimmerglass Festival, Magnolia in Show Boat at Washington National Opera, and Olympia in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann at Canadian Opera Company.

The spring performances of The Merry Widow are April 24, 27, 30, and May 7. Fabio Luisi conducts a cast led by Susan Graham in the title role, with Rod Gilfry as Danilo, Stephen Costello as Camille de Rosillon, and Alan Opie as Baron Zeta.
