Cape Town Opera's African Angels returns to Artscape after a sellout performance last season, and fresh from touring to over 34 cities in Holland and Germany over the past year.
The 18-voice chorus is accompanied by piano and drum with a program of moving and uplifting African songs mixed with American gospel music - and of course, opera.
The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town Opera joint endowment trust, aptly named Duet, was established in August 2014 for the advancement and preservation of both companies. Duet aims to build a fund to ensure that, while growing the capital, there is sufficient income to provide on-going injections of money to the joint beneficiaries. Cape Town Opera and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra join forces to bring you the best of symphonic and opera music; launch the Duet Endowment Trust and start the new-year with an injection of great sound brought to you by the Mother City's very own world-class Orchestra and Opera companies The concert features the versatile Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, young members from the St Andrew's Primary school in Saldanha, vocal soloists Derick Ellis, Arline Jaftha, Bongani Kubheka, Goitsemang Lehobye, Mandisinde Mbuyazwe, Lukhanyo Moyake, Xolela Sixaba and Siphamandla Yakupa along with piano soloists Nina Schumann and Luis Magalhães with works from Verdi, Mascagni, Puccini and Poulenc and more. Directed by Christine Crouse and conducted by Kamal Khan. There are also weekend tickets available and festival goers can purchased a reduced ticket price of R300 to both concerts (a saving of R100).
