Cornelia Street Cafe presents the Mat Maneri Trio featuring Mat Maneri, viola, Ed Schuller, bass and Randy Peterson, drums. This concert will be the 20 year anniversary of this contrapuntal trio who will be playing a collection of music from their past 3 recordings as well as new material. The trio have worked together over the years to try and push the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be, incorporating fresh ways of interpreting modern classical, swing and other forms of music.

Mat Maneri has recorded with Cecil Taylor, Matthew Shipp, Joe Morris, Joe Maneri, Gerald Cleaver, Tim Berne, Borah Bergman, Mark Dresser, William Parker, Michael Formanek, John Lockwood, as well as with his own trio, quartet, and quintet. He has also played on various band releases: Club d'Elf, Decoupage, Brewed by Noon, Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band, and Buffalo Collision. Maneri has worked with Ed Schuller, John Medeski, Roy Campbell, Paul Motian, Tomasz Stanko, Robin Williamson, Drew Gress, Tony Malaby, Ben Monder, Barre Phillips, Joëlle Léandre, Marilyn Crispell, Craig Taborn, Ethan Iverson, David King and many others. He has released records on labels such as Thirsty Ear, HatHut and ECM.
Randy Peterson is best known for his drumming in various contexts with free jazz saxophonist/clarinetist Joe Maneri and Mat ManerI. Peterson's style is often rather relaxed and episodic, in that his drum hits come in flurries. It's as if he conceives his playing in terms of sets of phrases with clear beginnings and ends, even though most of his playing is metrically free.

Bassist Ed Schuller has played with Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Ted Curson, Dave Liebman, Jimmy Knepper, Clark Terry, Ran Blake, Paul McCandless, Billy Hart, Joe Maneri, Marty Ehrlich, and Roland Hanna, and has toured with Lovano, Paul Motian, Tim Berne, Jim Pepper, Pat Martino, MAl Waldron, Uli Lenz, Karl Berger, Gerry Hemingway, Marty Cook, Nicolas Simian, Perry Robinson, Barry Miles (musician), Terry Silverlight, Mingus Epitaph, and Jaki Byard. He has played on over 60 recordings and been a member of numerous collective ensembles.
