Kristin Chenoweth to Bring THE DAMES OF BROADWAY to Lincoln Center's AMERICAN SONGBOOK, 3/24
Live From Lincoln Center presents "Kristin Chenoweth: The Dames of Broadway...All of 'Em!!!", a specially conceived concert for Lincoln Center's 2013 American Songbook series, which salutes the great roles for leading ladies and the sidekick scene stealers from an array of Broadway composers and lyricists, creating a performance that promises to be at once intimate and filled with her trademark "razzle dazzle." "Kristin Chenoweth: The Dames of Broadway...All of 'Em!!!" is hosted by Live From Lincoln Center series host Audra McDonald and will air on PBS stations on Sunday, March 24, at 8 p.m. (ET) (check local listings).
The show will be directed for the stage by Richard Jay-Alexander, with musical direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell and will also feature Tyler Hanes, Will Taylor, Constantine Germanacos and Johnny Stellard. Chenoweth will be joined by Damien Bassman on percussion and Dave Phillips on bass.
An Emmy- and Tony Award-winner, acclaimed recording artist, and New York Times best-selling author, Kristin Chenoweth effortlessly transitions between stage, television and film. She has appeared on blockbuster television programs such as The Good Wife, Glee (Emmy nomination), The West Wing, and Pushing Daisies (Emmy Award in 2009). On Broadway, her performance as Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown earned her a Tony Award in 1999, and she later created the role of the good witch, Glinda, in Wicked in 2004 (Tony nomination). Subsequent theatrical roles have included Eve in The Apple Tree and Fran Kubelik in last season's Promises, Promises opposite Sean Hayes. She performed in the New York Philharmonic's revival of Candide and the Encores! production of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. She is one of only three musical theater singers to perform a public solo concert at the Metropolitan Opera House, the others being Yves Montand and Barbara Cook. In 2012, the Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductee wrapped her critically acclaimed world tour in her hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. While on tour, she performed songs from her latest album "Some Lessons Learned," as well as an array of her most memorable songs and Broadway show tunes, including music from Wicked, Promises Promises, and Glee.
