The legendary smooth singer Johnny Mathis returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 7pm.

In early 1956, Johnny was given two offers, the chance to become a member of the USA Olympic Team as a high jumper, and a request to start recording sessions with Columbia records in New York. He chose singing. In the fall of 1956 Johnny recorded two singles "Wonderful, Wonderful" and "It's Not For Me To Say," they reached their peaks on the Billboard pop chart in July 1957. These successes were followed by the monumental single "Chances Are" which became Johnny's first number one hit!

From humble beginnings to stardom Johnny's singing career went from strength to strength; it was not uncommon for Johnny to have as many as four albums on the Billboard Top Album chart at the same time. Johnny's Greatest Hits became one of the most popular albums of all time and spent almost ten years on the Billboard Top Album Chart. In 1972 he was given his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Johnny has received five Grammy nominations, he has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame three times so far for "Chances Are," "Misty," and "It's Not For Me To Say." Johnny has sung for many prestigious events and people including several presidents and the British Royal Family. In 2014 Johnny was inducted into the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame.

Tickets are $35.00-$90.00 and are available at VanWezel.org, the Box Office, or by calling 941-953-3368.
