A fanfare of percussion, woodwinds and brass will ring out during a free performance by the College of the Mainland Concert Band Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall.

The concert will present a medley of tunes popularized by Louis Armstrong including "What a Wonderful World," "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "St. Louis Blues."

Showstoppers from musicals "Hello Dolly" and "West Side Story" will come to life in the Concert Band's bold style.

"The melodies of the songs will be recognizable," said Sparky Koerner, director. "Plus, a medley of Tijuana brass tunes including "Spanish Flea," "Whipped Cream," "The Lonely Bull," "Tijuana Taxi" from Herb Albert will get your toes tapping."

The program will conclude with "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and the march "Americans We," melodies that will leave the audience singing.

The COM Concert Band is comprised of musicians from the community and COM students.
